1. Scope
This policy applies to everyone who uses Utricle, signed in or not. It sits under the Terms of Service; breaking it is breaking the Terms.
2. What you are encouraged to do
For the avoidance of doubt, none of the following is restricted, and we would rather you did more of it:
- Study for as many hours a day as you want, in any mode, on any device.
- Take your own handwritten or typed notes on what you learned, in your own words, and keep them forever.
- Discuss a concept with a study partner or a tutor.
- Tell us a question is wrong. Loudly. We fix those.
- Sign in from a different device when yours breaks, as often as you need to.
3. Account sharing
An account belongs to one person. You may not give, lend, sell, or rent your credentials to anyone, and you may not study from someone else's account.
The Service enforces a single active browser session per account. That mechanism exists for this rule, and it is not a bug when it signs out the other device.
What we look at. Sustained concurrent use from unrelated locations, or a pattern of session hand-offs that no single person could produce. We do not treat travel, a phone and a laptop, or a shared campus network as sharing.
4. Copying and redistributing content
The following are prohibited without exception:
- reproducing questions, answer choices, explanations, or images — by screenshot, transcription, photograph, screen recording, copy-paste, or automated extraction;
- posting Utricle content to a forum, a messaging group, a file-sharing site, an external flashcard deck, a document, or a social platform — the flashcard builder inside Utricle is a product feature and is not covered by this line;
- feeding Utricle content into an AI system for training, fine-tuning, embedding, or bulk summarisation, and publishing or distributing anything derived that way;
- selling, sublicensing, or bundling any part of the bank;
- using the content, in whole or in part, to build a competing product.
This is the rule we enforce hardest, and the one where we act without a warning first. The question bank is the entire product; a leaked bank damages every honest subscriber who paid for it. See Copyright & Intellectual Property.
5. Automated access
You may not:
- scrape, crawl, or spider any part of the Service, or run scripted clients, headless browsers, or automation against it;
- call our internal APIs outside the application, or reverse-engineer the client to do so;
- circumvent rate limits, session limits, content-protection measures, or access controls of any kind;
- create accounts in bulk, or by automated means, or with an address you do not control.
Well-behaved search-engine crawlers are welcome on public marketing pages, per /robots.txt. Nothing behind sign-in is open to crawling.
6. Platform integrity
Do not:
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach or attempt to breach its security or authentication — unless you are doing so under the safe-harbour terms in the Security & Vulnerability Disclosurepolicy, which we would genuinely like you to use;
- interfere with the Service or its infrastructure — denial of service, flooding, or deliberately degrading it for others;
- upload malware, or use any Utricle feature that accepts input (notes, uploads, messages) to deliver malicious code;
- impersonate another user, a member of staff, or Utricle itself.
7. Conduct toward people
Where the Service lets you reach another human — support, feedback, account enquiries — do not harass, threaten, or abuse them, and do not send content that is unlawful, hateful, or designed to intimidate. Our support team is instructed to end conversations that turn abusive, and to keep helping anyone who is merely furious about a legitimate problem.
8. Exam integrity
Utricle is exam preparation material and nothing here is derived from a live exam. Do not use the Service to solicit, share, or distribute actual examination content, or anything represented as recalled from a live test administration. That harms every candidate, and it is the fastest route to an account being closed permanently.
9. What happens when this policy is broken
Our response is proportionate to what we find:
- An automatic two-hour pause on starting new tests
- The one response that happens without a human looking first. Two detectors run against every account. One trips when the account is used from five or more distinct networks within an hour — the shared-account signal. The other trips when more than 500 questions are served to it within three hours — a reading pace no person sustains, and the signature of a script.
- Either one pauses the starting of new tests for 120 minutes and tells you which of the two it was. Nothing else changes: finished tests, explanations, notes, flashcards, analytics, sign-in and support all keep working; your access window keeps running and is not shortened; and none of your study data is touched. The pause itself expires on its own — you do not have to do anything for it to lift.
- A trip does leave a record. It writes one dated entry against the account — which of the two detectors fired, and the counts that fired it, nothing about what you were studying — into a queue that staff review. The entry does not expire with the pause: it stays open until a member of staff clears it. Nothing acts on it automatically, but a person reading it can clear it, and can equally decide it looks like abuse and extend the pause by hand. That is the whole of what is kept, and we would rather publish it than let you find out from somebody else.
- These are heuristics and they do produce false positives — a hospital or university network that puts thousands of people behind shifting addresses, a train, a genuinely fast day. That is why the automatic response is two hours of one feature rather than anything larger. If one catches you unfairly, write to our contact form and staff can lift the pause and clear the entry immediately; you do not have to wait it out.
- A warning
- For most first incidents that look like a misunderstanding — an unusual sign-in pattern, a script someone did not realise counted. We tell you what we saw and ask you to stop.
- Suspension
- Access paused while we investigate, or after a warning was ignored. Your data is untouched and your window keeps running; a suspension we later find unjustified is compensated with an equivalent extension.
- Termination
- For extraction or redistribution at scale, systematic credential sharing, or an attack on the platform. Immediate, without a prior warning, and without a refund. We will still tell you what we found.
We reserve the right to pursue legal remedies for content theft, and to preserve and disclose evidence where we are lawfully required to.
10. If you think we got it wrong
Appeal to our contact form. A human reviews it — not the automated signal that flagged it — and we will tell you what the evidence was in enough detail for you to answer it. If we were wrong, we restore the account and extend the window by the time you lost.
11. Reporting abuse
If you find Utricle content posted somewhere it should not be, or an account being shared, tell us at our contact form. A link is enough; you do not need to build a case for us.
