1. Educational purpose only
Every question, explanation, image, and reference value on Utricle exists for one purpose: to prepare a candidate for a written medical licensing examination. The content is written to the conventions of that examination, which are not always the conventions of practice.
Nothing on this Service is medical advice, and it must not be used to diagnose, treat, prescribe for, or manage any real patient — including yourself. Clinical decisions belong to a qualified clinician working from the patient in front of them, current guidelines, and local protocol.
2. Why exam-correct is not always practice-correct
This deserves stating plainly, because it is the most likely way a student could come to harm from a question bank:
- Vignettes are constructed. They present a clean, single-diagnosis picture with the discriminating findings deliberately included. Real presentations are noisier and rarely have one right answer.
- The “best next step” is the best next step in an exam. It assumes an idealised setting with no resource constraint, no waiting list, and no competing comorbidity.
- Reference ranges are the exam's. Your laboratory's ranges, assays, and units may differ, and your laboratory is the one that is right for your patient.
- Guidelines move faster than exams do. Content is written to the standard the examination is currently testing, which can lag current practice.
3. No guarantee of a result
We make no promise, express or implied, about your examination outcome. We do not guarantee a pass, a score, a percentile, or an improvement.
Where the Service predicts a score from your self-assessment performance, that prediction is a statistical estimate from historical data. It is not a forecast of your result and should not be relied on for a decision about when to sit the exam. Peer percentiles compare you to other Utricle users, who are not a random sample of candidates.
4. Accuracy of content
Content is written and reviewed by clinicians and revised continuously. Even so, a bank of this size will contain errors, and an item that was correct when written can be overtaken by a guideline change.
We do not warrant that content is complete, current, or free of error. If you find a question you believe is wrong, report it from inside the question — it is the highest priority signal we act on, and corrections ship continuously.
5. Trademarks and non-affiliation
Utricle is an independent product. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or in any way connected to any examination body, licensing authority, medical school, or specialty board.
USMLE® is a registered trademark of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), which are not affiliated with and do not endorse this site.
Those marks, and any other third-party mark named here, are used descriptively and nominatively — to identify which examination a product prepares you for. They appear nowhere in our brand name, our logo, or our domain, and no ownership of them is claimed or implied.
Our own rebuild of the examination interface is an independent implementation, produced so candidates meet a familiar environment before test day. It is not the examination software, it is not licensed from any examination body, and it contains no examination content.
6. Exam content integrity
Nothing on Utricle is taken from, recalled from, or derived from a live examination. Every item is original. Using the Service to solicit or share actual examination content is prohibited under the Acceptable Use Policy and will end an account permanently.
7. External links
Where we link to an external site — a guideline, a licence deed, a reference — we do not control it and do not endorse everything on it. Its content is its owner's responsibility.
8. Limitation of liability
The limitation of liability in the Terms of Service applies to everything on this page. In particular, we are not liable for any clinical decision made in reliance on content here, or for any examination outcome.
